bisphosphonates (also called diphosphonates) are a class of drugs that prevent the loss of bone mass, used to treat osteoporosis and similar diseases.
Bone has constant turnover, and is kept in balance (homeostasis) by osteoblasts creating bone and osteoclasts digesting bone. Bisphosphonates inhibit the digestion of bone by osteoclasts. |
| There’s an epidemic in progress, and it has nothing to do with the flu. A ground-breaking study published in the March 2010 Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found an astonishing 59 per cent of study subjects had too little Vitamin D in their blood. Nearly a quarter of the group had serious deficiencies (less than 20 ng/ml) of this important vitamin. Since Vitamin D insufficiency is linked to increased body fat, decreased muscle strength and a range of disorders, this is a serious health issue.Read more at www.physorg.com |
It’s 5-2-1-0, and it breaks down like this:
5: Eat five vegetables and fruits a day (the majority of this should be vegetables). I would also add that you limit your fructose consumption from fruits to under 15 grams per day. You can use the table lower on this page to help you determine the fructose content of common fruits.
2: Limit screen time — TV in particular — to 2 hours or less a day. (The AAP says to avoid any screen time for children under the age of 2. Another interesting variation of this comes from Robert Lustig, MD who is a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of California who specializes in weight loss. He integrates this into the next one in that for every minute of screen time (TV or video games) a minute of exercise is required.
1: Do one hour of physical activity a day.
0: Have zero sugar-sweetened drinks This is an easy one that EVERY child would benefit from following. Read more at articles.mercola.com |

Avandia, a widely prescribed diabetes medication, was scrutinized by two FDA drug-safety reviewers, Dr. David Graham and Dr. Kate Gelperin, who wrote an October 2008 memo (yes, over a year ago!) in which they concluded that Avandia posed serious risks. Graham and Gelperin’s memo stated there was “strong evidence that (Avandia) confers an increased risk of “heart attack and heart failure when compared with Actos.” The researchers estimated that Avandia caused 500 more heart attacks and 300 more cases of heart failure per month than did Actos. In 2007 Dr. Graham had urged an FDA panel to pull Avandia from the market, but the panel voted 22-1 to advise the FDA to allow continued sales of the drug. Read more at www.anh-usa.org |

This web page does a pretty fair job of letting the reader know what natural treatments have strong evidence/research that they work, while others have shown little to no benefit. You can click on the circles and they will tell you what they are strong or weak for. Like I said, I think it's very interesting and very revealing to those who have held to the "nutrition is quackery" band wagon. URL: www.informationisbeautiful.net
