Prilosec and stomach cancer?
I was just doing some research for a patient and my search came up with Prilosec (given for stomach heartburn/esophageal reflux) causing polyps which are known to be precancerous TWENTY PERCENT of the time. I know that Prilosec causes anemia and osteoporosis and increased pneumonia, but I hadn’t heard the polyp connection.
My advice to everyone with reflux, gastritis and ulcers is to figure out what foods are irritation the stomach. Food allergies/sensitvities using IgG testing or in house manual muscle testing.

Sample size seems very limited…91 people. Been taking this for about 20 years - even before it went OTC - and its literally changed my life for the better. That said, any occurrence of precancer is alarming. Hope a large scale study is taken just to be sure. Until then, can you recommend any natural alternatives? Good find, thx!
4 months agoMy suggestion is that it’s inflammation of the stomach causing the problem. The question then is what’s causing the inflammation in the gut. I use an illustration with my patients. If i take sandpaper and rub it up and down the inside part of my left arm til it gets red/raw. Then dip my right arm in a vat full of lemon juice… I have no pain in my rt arm from the lemon juice. However, if I just flick my right fingers at my left arm… YIKES. So it is true if my treatment for the arm is to keep the left arm away from the lemon juice, but you know very well that the problem is that the left arm in inflammed. Why? Sandpaper. So in the human body, we need to figure out what the sandpaper is. Once we take care of that and your stomach has the chance to heal, you’ll be able to eat acidic and spicy foods again.
Main problem foods (although really need individual testing to be sure) are dairy and gluten. I put people on fruits, veggies, meats, eggs, fish, and nuts and tell them to just eat that for a while. Maybe rice too. Stomach heals up a majority of the time. Then you just need to stay off the offending “sandpaper” foods.
Does that help?
4 months agoDoc, just realized I never responded to you…sorry. Thanks so much, yes, this is great info. Thanks for putting it in easy-to-understand language! I don’t think I can completely change up my diet in one fell swoop, but I’m going to try to limit the glutens where possible (don’t do many milk products other than in my coffee). Thanks again, and keep these great clips coming!
